Build Recipe 21 - Q Fix 6.5 Creedmoor Rifle

(Showing 7 of 7)

A light weight rifle with accuracy at distance through a quiet suppressor.

Purpose

Repeatable accuracy at distances between 500-1000 yards without hearing protection, in a package light enough to carry slung all day.

Why this one?

 - Weight & Size

 - Ergonomics

 - Effectiveness

The Q Fix in 6.5 Creedmoor is a very light-weight and compact option for accuracy at distance. When coupled with a lightweight bipod and titanium suppressor, you get stability and sound suppression without adding a noticeable amount of weight to the front of the gun. And 25x magnification makes shots at the longer edge of 6.5 Creedmoors capabilities feel doable.

It is pretty normal practice today to swap the stock trigger out for your favorite trigger when buying a new gun, but the trigger that Q puts in the Fix felt pretty perfect to me and I felt no urge to change it.

The barrel is 16" long, making it a rifle, but the folding stock allows for it to fit in most bags, safes, and other storage and transport solutions. It comes with a Q Cherry Bomb muzzle device that accepts Q Suppressors and muzzle device covers like the Q Bottle Rocket or Q Whistle Tip.

Q's bolt action feels a little different than what I am used to, but it never feels like it's hung up or wants to get stuck in a certain position or anything that would annoy me while shooting.

The only thing that wasn't obvious that first glance, that I thought was worth mentioning, is that the hand guard uses a Q-specific mounting pattern called Q-Sert. While it may LOOK similar to M-LOK, it is actually a larger pattern and M-LOK accessories will not work without an adapter.

Optics

Because the 6.5 Creedmoor round can travel far and fast, we are using a bit more magnification than we normally go with in these build recipes. Many of the guns we have built so far were not configured with 800yard shots in mind. But this gun is perfectly capable of doing that, and the additional magnification is much appreciated when looking at targets that far away.

The EOTECH VUDU 5-25x scope has a lot of magnification for such a compact form factor. It's a first focal plane scope so it the hold-overs are the same regardless of the magnification. The MD3-MRAD reticle is functional and has illumination at multiple points going down the drop markers.

  - up to 25x magnification

  - compact form factor

  - light weight

  - functional reticles

  - clear glass and forgiving "eye-box"

We went with a Reptilia scope mount for this build because the 1.54" feels the most comfortable for my shooting posture, but there are taller and shorter mounts available on the market if this height doesn't work as well for you.

Suppressor

  - Light weight titanium

  - Compact size

  - Engineered for 6.5 Creedmoor specifically

  - Mounts to existing Cherry Bomb muzzle device

There are a number of Suppressors, even in the Q line up, that will work on a 6.5 Creedmoor Fix. For example, Q's 30 cal suppressors like the Trash Panda and Thunder Chicken will work. However, the Q Jumbo Shrimp suppressor was designed specifically around optimizing performance with the 6.5 Creedmoor round. It is a really good blend of sound suppression without adding so much weight that it noticeably changes the balance and feel of the gun.

It mounts to the Cherry Bomb muzzle device that comes on the Q Fix so it will thread right on and come right off without any other parts needing to be changed or added.

Bipod

  - Light weight

  - 45deg and 90deg stops

  - Telescoping legs

  - Deploys by just pulling

  - mounts to fix without additional adapters

The Q Kickstand bipod is a no-brainer when it comes to Fix rifle builds. It uses the Q-Sert mounting pattern so it bolts to the Fix rail without the need of any other adapters. (Adapters would be needed to use an MLOK or Picatinny bipod from another manufacturer.

I really like that the legs fold open with a straight pull without any button press or special motion needed. The legs stop at 45deg but can be pulled through to 90deg. The legs also telescope to longer lengths if necessary.

The bipod is very light and doesn't noticeably change the balance of the gun's weight when shooting.
